Information About Hamsters
07/12/2009 00:14Hamsters are very enjoyable pets. They are easy to love and care for. They need to be handled regularly and played with. They need space to run and climb and chew blocks to help keep their teeth from growing too much. Their teeth are constantly growing and if not kept chewed down, they can actually grow through the top of their mouth into their head, and can result in death. They need fresh water daily, and food. Even though sometimes it may look like they don't have any food, just check under their shavings or bedding. They are really good at hiding their food for later times. Hamsters can eat a variety of food, including carrots (as an occasional treat) cheerios with the lowest sugar possible, broccoli, celery. These foods are not to be given as daily food or regular diet. They require Hamster Diet. They can play with empty toilet paper tubes, empty paper towel tubes. They love them. Hamsters can sometimes be intolerent or allergic to foods just like humans, so always give foods in small amounts first to make sure your hamster isn't allergic to anything. This list of foods are found in diferent searches on the internet. Foods with an asterick * are some favorites of our hamsters. Please, if you bring in fresh foods from outdoors, make sure it has not been poisoned or sprayed with anything and always wash the food before giving it to your hamsters. And please do not let food get molded in their cage, it is not safe for them. Also, you must continue to handle your hamsters to avoid them getting wild. We try to handle all of ours everyday and if that's not possible, we handle them as much as we can to keep them tame. You should seperate hamsters once they get a couple of months old to avoid them fighting with each other. Syrian (Teddy Bear) hamsters will fight and cause serious injury to each other or even death. So please if you breed them, once they are finished, seperate them into different cages where they can not get to each other.
